In a great boost to the aspiring musicians in the State of Nagaland, the community will now be under the tutelage of renowned musician and Grammy-winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
This move was announced by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio via social media platform Twitter. Rio wrote, "Grammy Award recipient and Padma Bhushan, Hindustani classical musician Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, will mentor Naga musicians and also be the Patron of the data-query-source="hashtag_click">#Nagaland music industry."
It is to be mentioned that the Nagaland Government has recently constituted a Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA) to promote music as a viable means of employment for the youths of the region. This task force has been lauded by the musicians of the State.
Recently while talking to Inside Northeast, Metet Jamir of the band 'Run Monday Run' had said, "One can take music as a profession here in Nagaland as the Government is trying their very best to promote Music and the Arts. For instance, TaFMA (task for for music and arts) IS providing so many platforms to artists in the field of music, dance, theatre, strings and arts by giving workshops, concerts etc. One cannot help but be grateful..”
