Kohima, March 3, 2020:

Narola Jati, a biker-cop from Nagaland has caught the public's imagination for her untiring efforts at charity. Apart from biking, the multi-faceted Jati has also earned the Nagaland Police force proud in the recently held All India Police Meet held in Bhopal, where she bagged two medals in badminton (ladies singles and doubles). Jati, who rose to prominence in 2015 as the first prominent female biker from the State of Nagaland, continues to tour on her bike. Jati, who is a Sub-Inspector at the Nagalalnd Armed Police Training Outpost is Dimapur's Chumukebima recently talked to us. Below are the excerpts:

So -- the myth of the biker cop -- how did it all begin?

I was featured as the biker cop in papers and the media, so it kind of stuck. My journey as a biker began in 2011-12. In 2015, I participated in a motorcross, and people took notice of me because I was a cop...and also a biker, just the novelty of it all is what drew people towards my story. That is how it all began.

You have visited all NE states as part of your rides. Why do you ride? What do you think?

I ride as a passion. Whenever I get time, I take part in charitable events. I participate in teaching songs to children in far flung areas, we spend some time to teach them. These kids mainly study in Government schools, where facilities are a bit less. Moreover, we collect money and give aid to the old and the people. I have visited these people door-to-door.

What is your greatest desire or wish?

I am optimistic person, so I pray that I will win more medals in the near future; badminton is also something that I am truly passionate about..

On the current trend of lady bikers in Nagaland...

Well I was the first (laughs). In total, there are four of us. You must have also heard of Onen Nenty, she is the other famous lady biker from Nagaland..

On your life as a cop -- does it match the thrill of riding bikes?

I leave my casual leaves for charitable causes when I go on bike trips. Recently I went to Myanmar on a trip, and I am going on another ride very soon; so riding is thrilling for me. As far as being a cop is concerned --- I had always dreamt of becoming police officer; I think this is the right path to choose. I am happy that I chose this path; its a tough job, but at the same time, it is easy because I perform my duties properly.
