Nagaland all set to organise Hornbill Festival 2021

KOHIMA: With COVID-19 situation gradually improving, Nagaland is all set to organize the 22nd edition of the Hornbill Festival at The Heritage Village, Kisama. Nagaland will also host the International Travel Mart (ITM) for the first time from November 28 to 30.

Announcing the same, tourism and art & culture adviser H Khehovi Yeputhomi informed that Rs 75 crore was generated collectively by entrepreneurs and other participants during the Hornbill Festival in 2019, which he claimed helped boost the State’s economy.

The adviser further stated that the meeting that this year Nagaland would also be hosting International Tourism Mart (ITM) alongside the festival and, therefore, he stressed on the need to start making necessary preparations from now.

Yeputhomi said that the event will coincide with the Hornbill Festival, and 500 delegates with 300 tourist guides from abroad and 200 from mainland India are expected.

The adviser also highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated, especially by those individuals who would be participating in the events for the safety and success of the festival.

Although the government has opened almost everything in the unlock-7, Yeputhomi said the festival will be in full consonance with COVID appropriate behaviours. He also urged the tribal leaders to inform their respective people in the village to take the vaccine for participation in the festival.

With so many misconceptions surrounding the vaccine, he said “COVID vaccine has nothing to do with politics or religions. It is only for safety defense against the virus.”
