Nagaland government decided to ban the entry of security personnel to the state till September 2020 amid the rise in COVID-19 cases. The decision came after the armed forces accounted for over 40 percent of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Nagaland currently has 1755 active COVID-19 cases while 819 have recovered and 6 died due to the infection in the state.
Meanwhile, Assam reported 2372 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours pushing the state’s total to 52817; of which 15,464 are still active and 37,224. The positivity rate was 4.25 percent.
Of the 2372 confirmed cases, 470 from Kamrup (M), 197 from Nagaon, 163 from Cachar, 128 from Dibrugarh, 122 from Tinsukia, and 104 from Jorhat.

Assam has registered highest number in the Northeast followed by 1957 active cases in Tripura, 1755 in Nagaland, 1304 in Manipur, 640 in Meghalaya, 475 in Sikkim and 251 in Mizoram.
Coronavirus cases in India has now crossed the 20 lakh-mark while over 41,000 people have died across the country. India recorded the biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 62,000 new cases. The coronavirus vaccine being developed by Moderna has successfully managed to protect mice for catching infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19 in humans. Scientists developing the coronavirus vaccine in the US have found that it manages to produce antibodies in mice.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government has asked the Centre to issue guidelines on the development of vaccines for coronavirus besides decentralising the authority for fast-tracking testing and approvals. The Centre has said that till date 9.30 lakh Indians have returned home under the Vande Bharat Mission to bring back Indian nationals who were stranded abroad during the coronavirus-induced lockdown across the world. In comparison, over 1.20 lakh foreigners were sent back to their native places during the mission.
