Kohima: The voting for bypolls in two Assembly constituencies in Nagaland is currently underway. A total of eight candidates are in the fray which includes three in 14 Southern Angami and five in 60 Pungro-Kiphire.

The Chief electoral officer (CEO) Abhijit Sinha informed that the polling has begun at 6 in the morning and will continue till 4 pm in both the constituencies.

A total of 99 polling stations have been set up for the voting purpose and a total of 600 polling officers have been deployed at all the stations, the CEO informed.

He further added that the electorate would undergo mandatory thermal screening at their respective polling stations before casting their votes, while He added that voters with high temperature or symptoms of COVID, will be allowed to cast the ballot in the last hour of polling time.

All the polling stations have been sanitized and necessary arrangements have been made to ensure webcasting from all major polling booths. However, the webcasting would be done from only 30% of booths in Kiphire due to poor internet connectivity and offline videography would be done for the remaining booths.

Southern Angami-I has a total of 13,541 voters, out of which 13,489 are general electors and 52 service electors, with Jakhama Upper having the maximum electorate with 986 voters, while with only 155 voters Mitelephe has the lowest electorate.

Pungro has 29,346 voters, which includes 29,247 general electors, and 99 service electors. With a total of 954 voters, West house ward ‘A’ Kiphire town has the highest electorate, while Kiuro village has the lowest voters (45).
