KOHIMA: An inquiry team of the Indian Army, which has been probing the December 4 Nagaland firing incident, visited the incident site at Oting Village in Mon district today.

 

The inquiry team, headed by a senior rank officer, a Major General, inspected the site to understand the circumstances in which the incident could have happened. The team also took along the witnesses for better understanding of the situation and how events would have unfolded.

 

The Army Inquiry Committee after inspection visited the Tizit Police station in the afternoon to meet the cross section of the society including the civilians, police personnel and doctors who treated injured for obtaining valuable information pertaining to the incident.

 

Earlier, Indian Army had requested twice, through public notices regarding any person having information, to directly share it, either by being present before the Inquiry Team at Tizit Police Station on above mentioned date and time or any input, photo or video related to the incident be shared with them.

 

On December 4 and 5, troops from the Army’s elite 21 Para SF unit fired on Oting villagers on a truck mistaking them for insurgents.

Meanwhile, a SIT has been constituted to probe the firing incident that claimed 15 innocent lives, including an Indian Army personnel, has asked residents of Oting to report information from the primary source or any shred of information pertaining to the mishap.
