Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio self-quarantines after returning from Delhi

Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio has gone into self-quarantine after returning from New Delhi.

Rio said he self-quarantined himself as a precautionary measure. However, he said he will continue to discharge his duties during the quarantine period.

“As a precautionary measure, I'm on self-quarantine on my return to Nagaland from Delhi. Taking precautions to ensure safety of others & myself.  Will continue discharging duties,” Rio tweeted on Thursday.

He appealed to follow official advisories/guidelines, wear mask, maintain social distancing and observe hygiene.

On Wednesday, Rio met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at South Block and reportedly discussed the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Rio also briefed Singh about the steps taken to contain Covid-19 in the state.

Speculations are rife that Rio called on Singh following Governor RN Ravi’s recent assessment of the law and order in Nagaland.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Y Patton and four other legislators of the state who had undergone Covid-19 test in New Delhi following a driver and some employees of Nagaland House there testing positive for the virus.

The deputy chief minister’s office media cell on Wednesday said all the legislators on return to Nagaland will quarantine themselves at a government quarantine centre although their test results turned out to be negative.

They had gone to Delhi to meet with some central leaders.
