Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s mother Kevilhouu Rio passed away in the evening at around 7:50 pm on Wednesday, January 1, at a private hospital in Kohima. She was 92.
According to the family, she died of old-age related ailments and was admitted to ICU at Oking Hospital in the state capital.

Kevilhouu Rio’s funeral service has been organized at Kevilhouu Rio Auditorium G.Rio School Kohima, from 11 am. Her last rites will be held at the Rio family cemetery at Botsa in the afternoon on the outskirts of the state capital at around 1 pm on Thursday.
Nagaland Deputy CM Y Patton shared his condolence message on Twitter, stating, “Saddened at the news of passing away of Smti Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, wife of Late Shri Guolhoulie Rio and mother of our Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri @Neiphiu_Rio . My heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May the Almighty God give her soul eternal peace.”
Attending the funeral service, Nagaland Education Minister Temjen Imna Along wrote, “IN God We Trust. -- Honoured to be in the Funeral Service Of Late Mrs. Kevilhouu Rio, Mother of Honourable Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio,True Mother of Many, an epitome of Motherhood. God bless Her Soul.”
He also added, “A Mother's Life well lived. Cheers God had given and He has taken it to Himself. The Lords Name be praised.”
Nagaland’s Suruhoto Constituency MLA H. Khehovi tweeted, “It is terrible to hear about the loss of Smti. Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, Mother of Chief Minister Shri. @Neiphiu_Rio. She has been a beautiful and kind soul. I express my sincere sympathy. May our Lord bless and comfort the bereaved family during this time of grief.”
