The Deputy Chief Minister Nagaland Y. Patton has reacted to the accusations of MCC violation and norms at 31 Riphyim Old-III Polling Station against him.
A video of him wearing a BJP party scarf and signing up nine times to vote has spread like wildfire on social media and rivals Congress has accused the Deputy CM of violating election rules.
Reacting to this, Patton's Media Cell said: "It is emphatically and categorically denied that there is no violation of any electoral norms, rules and model code of conduct by Shri. Y. Patton as alleged by NPCC. The authenticity and the intent of the Video Clip purportedly showing Patton entering the Polling Station needs scrutiny and the cause of action and legal recourse arising out of the same is reserved. It is further clarified that Patton has never indulged in any multiple voting but cast his legitimate Vote alone and not as alleged by NPCC."
"Patton expresses his highest respect to the Constitutionally established Election Commissions and its electoral process and further assures his cooperation to the competent authorities in any effort to find out the truth in this matter. Apart from the unauthentic and ill-intent Video Clip that went Viral in Social Media, the Polling process at 31 Riphyim Old-III was completely peaceful with no complaint whatsoever from anyone or any corner, as such, there is no reason that warrants re-polling as demanded by the NPCC. Patton wishes to congratulate and thank the Election Commissions and all Polling Personnel engaged in the smooth and successful conduct of the lone Lok Sabha Election in Nagaland", read the communique.
