The Dimapur district administration in the last two days in Nagaland collected Rs 13,500 as fine at the rate of Rs 100 per head from people who did not wear masks.

According to Dimapur deputy commissioner Anoop Kinchi on Wednesday, the collected money will be deposited in the government treasury.

Wearing of masks has been made mandatory in the district to fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

The district administration has been making an announcement through public address system throughout Dimapur, Nagaland since April asking people to wear masks covering the nose and mouth. Though more than 90 per cent of the people are seen wearing masks, there are some people, including educated ones and shopkeepers, who do not wear masks while some others are found hanging the masks in their ears, neck or keep it in the vehicle.

Kinchi reminded that a fine of Rs 100 is being imposed from those people who after repeated orders and announcements do not follow the guidelines. He said the names and addresses of such people are being recorded so that sterner action as per the Disaster Management Act can be initiated against them.

Meanwhile, 250 people reached Dimapur, Nagaland by flight on Wednesday. Out of them, 102 people from Kolkata and seven from Guwahati came by an Air India flight. An Indigo flight bought 141 people from Kolkata.

After the medical screening and mandatory procedures, all the returnees were transported by bus to the quarantine centres.

Meanwhile, Nagaland reported 17 new cases on June 24th, 2020 taking the state’s total to 347, stated the state Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom.
