DIMAPUR: Dimapur Police on Saturday stated that the crime rate in Dimapur district has witnessed a marked decline by approximately 60 per cent during the lockdown.
The decline has been seen mostly in extortion-related cases in the district, the police informed in a statement.
Dimapur Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) and Public Relations officer T. Relo Aye stated that a total of 20 cases were registered in various police stations in the district between May 4 to May 29.

He said that five extortion cases with the arrest of seven people while two kidnapping and abduction cases with arrest of two were registered during the period.
Aye further informed that two theft cases with the arrest of one, three cases under Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act with arrest of three and just one case under Arms Act with arrest of one and one case (grievous hurt) with arrest of two were registered during the period of lockdown.
Along with enforcing COVID-19 SOP within the district, Dimapur police has also been simultaneously carrying out intensive inter-state border patrolling, especially in Niuland/Dhansiripar and West Zone areas, he added.
Intensive mobile/foot patrolling has been deployed round the clock for prevention and detection of crime to ensure public safety. Armed mobile escorts have also been provided to transport trucks, the Commissioner added.
