KOHIMA: Joining with the rest of the country, Nagaland will launch the National Immunization Day today, officials have confirmed.

 

 

A state launching program has been launched at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima at 8 this morning.

 

 

All eligible children from 0-5 years will be administered with Polio drops throughout the districts in 2,206 polio booths to be manned by 9,096 health personnel and 441 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics.

 

 

Special focus is also being given to the migrant population with an aim to prevent the importation of polio cases.

 

 

It needs metion here that India achieved the status of a polio-free country a decade ago; the last case was detected in Howrah in January 13, 2011.

The health ministry said that pulse polio immunization will be taken up on January 31, February 1 and 2.

 

 

Nationwide, a three day polio vaccination drive will also be launched today.

 

 

On the eve of the programme, President Ram Nath Kovind administered polio drops to children at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday.

 

 

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey were also present on the occasion.

 

 

The Union health ministry aims to administer polio drops to 17 crore children in the targeted age group to maintain the polio-free status of the country.
