Dimapur (Nagaland), September 13, 2018:

Nagaland’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister, CM Chang, has revealed that the state loses nearly 200 sq km of forest cover every year.

He revealed this while speaking at the sensitisation programme of district management unit, field management unit and first batch of villages under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) at forest office complex in Dimapur on Wednesday.

He spoke about alternate methods beyond shifting cultivation to attain sustainable forest environment conservation.

Chang said the NFMP aimed at conserving land under shifting cultivation by a three-pronged approach.

He said all these measures would contribute towards the conservation of environment and also generate stable income for the villages targeted under the project. The project targets 185 villages across 11 districts spread over 22 ranges.
