Nagaland pig farmers asked to vaccinate pigs against classical swine fever

DIMAPUR: The Nagaland directorate of animal husbandry and veterinary services today asked the pig farmers in the state to get their pigs, especially the breeding stock, vaccinated against classical swine fever as prevention before the onset of summer.

The directorate urged them to inoculate the pigs at the nearest veterinary institutes since the disease is endemic in the state.

It said vaccination may be carried out in “ring” or “cluster” depending on the occurrence and epidemiological pattern of the disease in respective district.

“Due importance should be given in the border areas and stock routes,” it stated.

The directorate asked all chief veterinary officers of the state to collect the vaccination cost, classical swine fever vaccine (first phase) procured under CSF-CP-2019-20 (CSS 90%)and classical swine fever vaccine (second phase) procured under State Plan-2019-20 from its office.

It said the vaccination cost may be utilised for hiring of vehicles, procurement of vaccination tools, cottons, antiseptics, contingencies, working lunch etc.

The directorate asked the veterinary officers concerned to submit utilisation certificate and expenditure statement to its office for record.
