The Nagaland government has urged the Assam government to direct the Sivasagar district administration not to carry out any construction activities in the disturbed area belt (DAB) near the Watiyongpang Gate in Nagaland and also to provide security to the people from Nagaland traveling on National Highway 2 in Amguri and border areas in the district.
In a letter, Nagaland home commissioner R Ramakrishnan brought to the notice of Assam’s principal secretary (home), LS Changsan, “Construction activities for establishing of a Border Police Outpost (BOP) in the DAB near the Watiyongpang Gate are being undertaken by Assam Government. Reportedly, a team headed by the Circle Officer, Amguri and the contractor for the assigned work have started jungle clearance on 23.07.2018 for the proposed construction of Border Police Outpost in the DAB in clear violation of not to take up construction activities in DAB areas as agreed by both the State Governments”.
The Nagaland home commissioner also wrote that a sudden bandh was enforced on the highway in Halwathing market area on Thursday in support of the proposed construction of the BOP causing inconveniences to the commuters from Nagaland side.
