The Naga Students' Federation on Friday appealed to the Nagaland government to direct the telecom providers operating in the state to provide quality network coverage and uninterrupted internet connectivity in all their areas of operation.

The federation made the appeal following “numerous complaints” received by its grievances cell from distraught students, aggrieved parents and concerned citizens with regard to the online classes and poor network connectivity.

In a release, it said there are instances of students not being able to log in to the school education department's website at the official portal https://dosenl.in and registration failure in the webpage itself among others on multiple occasions.

The federation said it was constrained to address on the plights of the student community with regard to the online learning programme introduced by the department owing to poor network coverage and slow internet connectivity in the state.

The federation appreciated the department for launching the online learning programme to keep the students engaged in the process of education during the COVID-19 lockdown period. However, it said the students should not be at the receiving end due to lack of access to technology and other disparities, which could hamper their academic performance and overall development for the Nagaland students.

It said lack of quality network coverage and uninterrupted internet connectivity in all areas of the state has cost the student community dearly and deprived the general populace of their paid services in Nagaland.

The timely intervention of the state government on the issue will greatly benefit the student community and rebuild the education sector which has been affected the most during this COVID-19 pandemic, it said.
