Nagaland: Total lockdown in Kohima lifted from August 8

Kohima deputy commissioner Gregory Thejawelie on Friday ordered the lifting of the 14-day total lockdown in Kohima municipal area under Kohima Sadar jurisdiction with effect from August 8. The total lockdown was promulgated from July 25 to August 7.

In an order, Thejawelie said the Odd-Even system for movement of vehicles will continue to remain in force till August 31.

For market opening days and timings, the terms and conditions stipulated vide an order on June 18 will remain in force, the order said.

In another order, Thejawelie said Old Ministers Hill, New Ministers Hill, High School Ward, Midland Ward and Kohima village have been declared as sealed area following detection of Covid-19 positive person (s) residing in these locations.

All movement of person/vehicles within the sealed areas have been restricted/prohibited and put under active surveillance with immediate effect, the order said.

DTF assesses lockdown benefits

The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) on Covid-19 assessed the benefits of the 14-day total lockdown in Kohima at a meeting in the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday.

The meeting, chaired by the deputy commissioner and chairman of Kohima DTF, Gregory Thejawelie, evaluated the positive aspects of the two-week-long total lockdown in Kohima municipal area.

The DTF felt that the lockdown period has facilitated the medical team in contact tracing and surveillance activities, which enabled them to handle the tasks in a more efficient and better manner though sections of people expressed their opinions and observations in support as well as against the total lockdown.

Briefing the members on the advantages of lockdown, Kohima chief medical officer Dr Vezokholu said shifting of positive cases to Covid hospital/care centre, shifting of persons to sample collection site and sealing of the epicenter areas were made much easier during this lockdown period as most of the positive cases were reported from outside the quarantine centres. She added that the people were made more aware and disciplined which helped the medical team track the contacts outside the quarantine centres effectively.

The DTF also took up issues of setting up of TrueNet machines in sub-divisions under the district and decided to propose to the government for installation of the machines in all the four blocks of Tseminyu, Chiephobozou, Sechü Zubza and T.B. Hospital.

On paid facility to be implemented at K. Badze quarantine centre from August 10 as per the August 4 SOP notified by the home department, the DTF decided to fix Rs 300 per day for lunch and dinner to be charged from all the returnees/travellers who are at the quarantine facility.

Other issues such as awareness and sensitisation of the general public, measures to check to wear of masks and other safety protocols and also waste management were also taken up for follow up actions.
