NAGALAND: YET ANOTHER TWIST IN NAGALAND POLITICS

Moments before the swearing-in ceremony in Nagaland, the National People’s Party(NPP) has withdrawn support from the the BJP-NDPP alliance. In a letter addressed to the Governor PB Acharya, the NPP wrote “as per the directive from your esteemed office that made it mandatory to obtain authorization and endorsement from the party high command for the letter of support submitted to your kind office by the NPP, Nagaland State Unit, extending support to NDPP-BJP alliance for the formation of government, it has only become necessary to withdraw the same and declare it null and void. The reason for the withdrawl of the “letter of support” being that we are yet to obtain endorsement for the same from our national president”.

It may be mentioned that the Governor’s office had earlier asked for a proper authorization and endorsement from the Party High Command for the ‘Letter of Support’ to the NDPP-BJP alliance.

It may also be mentioned that the NPP has won 2 seats, NDPP-BJP alliance has 29 seats while it has the support of one Janata Dal(United) MLA and 1 Independent MLA in Nagaland. The magic figure being 30 to form the government, this new development would not affect in the formation of a coalition government in the state. The swearing-in ceremony of the new government is scheduled for March 8.
