Imphal, December 5, 2019:

Nagas in the State of Manipur will hold rallies on December 17 "in support for early final settlement of Indo-Naga peace accord".

This resolution was taken by the United Naga Council (UNC) after a presidential meeting held at the UNC office in Senapati, on Tuesday.

According to the UNC, the rallies will be held simultaneously on the day in “four Naga district headquarters” from 11 am onwards. Nagas predominantly reside in 4 districts of Manipur: Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati, and Tamenglong.

The UNC also took the resolution that: “all the Naga MLAs irrespective of his or her party should not attend the special assembly session being convened by the Governor of Manipur on December 18, 2019”.

The UNC presidential council meeting then, after a threadbare deliberation, observed that the resolution taken by Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on November 29, 2019, "is unfortunate and also irresponsible, unwarranted and uncalled for at this point of time”.

The Naga body has further alleged that "any kind of benefit to the Naga people" has been opposed all along by “these people”.

The UNC presidential council meeting also resolved that “no unmandated Naga organization(s), group(s) or individual(s) should speak on behalf of the Nagas on land, identity, history, political rights and time honoured institution in any meeting, press or electronic media”.

It may be mentioned here that the COCOMI has been launching protests non-stop with the demand that the "territorial integrity" of Manipur should not be compromised after the resolution between the Centre and the Naga insurgent groups.
