Nagaland: NASU urges govt to waive off students' school fees

KOHIMA: The Northern Angami Students' Union (NASU) has urged the Nagaland Government to shut down the schools and shift to online classes as well as to waive off school fees of unaided recognized private institutions in view of the COVID pandemic and the hardships faced by the students' community due to the pandemic.

In a released statement, addressed to the Principal Director, Department of School Education, NASU appreciating the selfless service rendered by the staffs and management of each and each institution, aided and unaided, has urged the government to pass an order directing all unaided recognized private institutions to waive off a certain per cent of the tuition fees for unutilized facilities until the resumption of formal or physical classes.

NASU also urged the educational institutions not to debar students from attending classes as well exams and withhold students' results on basis of non-payment of fees, arrears, or outstanding fees.

The student body has pointed out that the parents of the students are going through a really difficult time financially to remit annual fees amid the ongoing pandemic.

The student body has submitted the representation highlighting that the student community is also going through “extraordinary difficult circumstances” due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NASU also cited instances of how states across the country, including the neighboring state of Assam passed an order directing all non-government institutions to waive off 25% of the monthly fees for students.

In this regard, the apex student body of the Northern Angamis, urged the state government to consider its “charter of representation” for implementation across the state.
