He also said that the Northeast is the lung of India, as 26% of the country's forest cover is found in the region, and thus, the region is providing oxygen to the Country, he said.
The Northeast is important from a border security point of view, from a cultural point of view, but we will soon develop it into a hub of trade and commerce, within 10 years", assured Shah. Shah said that the development would be to such an extent, that Delhites would soon come to the Northeast seeking better job opportunities. "Soon, Delhites will come seeking jobs here...", he said.

Taking potshots at the rival Congress party, he said, "We have freed the Northeast from the Congress, and all the eight States are now under the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA)." Shah also alleged that the Congress had hindered the development of the region during its tenure.
Shah also assured that all the "spies" from Bangladesh will be driven out of the nation. It may be mentioned that over nineteen lakh people were left out of the final NRC draft, published on August 31.
