The opposition Naga People's Front (NPF) party on Wednesday filed disqualification against seven rebel MLAs who had shown support for the PDA consensus candidate Tokheho Yepthomi in the recently concluded Nagaland Lok Sabha election.
The seven rebel MLAs are E.E. Pangteang, Eshak Konyak, Kejong Chang, B.S. Nganglang, Toyang Chang, Thongwang Konyak, and C.L. John.
In a statement, the NPF party said: “The reason of filling the disqualification petition against the seven erring MLAs is willfully defying the party’s collection decision to support the Congress party in the last parliamentary election 2019 to the lone Nagaland parliamentary constituency.”
The NPF further stated that going against the party's decision amounts to giving up party membership.
The party stated that "as empowered by the Party, the NPF Legislature Wing has filed the disqualification petition in the office of the Hon'ble Speaker Nagaland Legislative Assembly."
It may be mentioned that the NPF, which did not field its candidate, had supported former Chief Minister and Congress candidate K L Chishi.
Nagaland recorded an impressive voter turnout of 83.12% in the election conducted on 11 April.
