NSCN (IM) mourns demise of Lathon Kemp, one of the first Naga flag weavers

Dimapur: The NSCN (I-M) mourned the death of Lathon Kemp, one of the Naga women who weaved the first Naga national flag. Born in 1924, she passed away at her native village Sendenyu under Rengma region on Tuesday afternoon.

The Naga national flag will be hoisted half mast tomorrow as a mark of respect to Kemp, the ministry of information of publicity of the NSCN (I-M) said in a release today.

The NSCN (I-M) said the Naga people believe that God must have inspired her to work on the Naga national flag to give political meaning and identity to the Naga people as a nation.

“It was this beautiful flag with rainbow and Bethlehem star that inspired and lead the Naga people throughout. This flag is also identified as God’s covenant with the Naga people that He will be with the Nagas,” it said.

The NSCN (I-M) said it is proud of her and everyone who shares her love for the Naga nation.

Saluting Kemp, the outfit expressed condolences to the bereaved family and her close friends who stood by her till her last breath.
