NSCN-IM says, Ceasefire agreements with ‘surrogate factions’ deceitful dealing of Naga political issue

DIMAPUR: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) accused the Government of India of resorting to deceitful dealing of the Naga political issue by signing ceasefire agreement after ceasefire agreement with its “surrogate factions”.

“Such a double standard by the Government of India only casts doubt on India's sincerity. The Naga political issue should not be presented to the world in this deceptive manner,” the outfit's ministry of information and publicity said in a statement.

The NSCN asserted that the issue is one and that there will be one solution, saying that one can deceive a few cronies but never the people.

“Can it fool the rest of the world?” it wondered.

On September 8, after signing ceasefire agreements with other Naga political groups, the Government of India signed a one-year ceasefire agreement with the NSCN (KNiki )'s Sumi faction.

The NSCN-IM claimed that the Government of India has gained a reputation for engaging in duplicitous dealings in order to play the villainous role of scheming villain in order to kill the Naga issue by keeping the Nagas divided.

The world, however, is not blind to the dramatic political situation in Nagalim (Nagaland), it added.

According to the statement, the world is also aware of the political wisdom of India's political leaders who are guiding the political talks with the leadership of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN), the one and only authentic political organisation of the Naga people, which has agreed to begin the political dialogue on the basis of mutually agreed points - talk at the highest level.

The NSCN stated that the agreement clearly reflects the unique history of the Nagas, sovereignty of the people and shared sovereignty of the two entities.

The NSCN affirmed that it will stick to the agreement in any eventuality while stating that both the parties have much to gain from the Framework Agreement.

It stated that during the subsequent talks, with a better understanding of each other's positions and respect for the Naga people's historical and political rights, an indelible milestone was achieved when the historic Framework Agreement was signed on August 3, 2015.

The agreement raised the two people's hopes for a long-term solution and peace in the land, it added.

It opined that it would be a mistake for the Government of India to complicate the Naga issue by pursuing numerous agreements under false pretenses that have no political relevance to the Naga solution.

According to the NSCN, no amount of agreements will result in a solution if it is not issue-based, and that talking for a solution is pointless and a waste of time if it is not with the mandated organisation that holds the trump card.

It also asked the Indian government if it would enter into agreements with other parties on the Naga political issue in the name of stakeholders.

“This is simply a breach of trust and a mockery of the Naga issue,” it said.

According to the NSCN (IM), it is critical for the Government of India to reaffirm its position and commitment to the Framework Agreement at this stage.

“The Government of India and the NSCN have come a long way in negotiating an honourable and mutually acceptable Naga solution. There is no getting away from it, no matter how complicated it is. Both parties must go deep into the problem with mutual respect and commitment,” it added.
