KOHIMA: The Naga Students’ Federation backed Mega Peoples’ Rally tomorrow will demand the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. The event is slated to be held at Old MLA Hostel Junction, Kohima.

NSF President Kegwayhun Tep said the rally is being organised to confront the issues that were affecting not only the Nagas but the entire North-eastern states.

He has urged Kohima based civil societies, students and the citizens of Kohima to come forward and show their solidarity and to take part in the rally.

The rally will commence at Old MLA hostel junction, Kohima at 11 a.m. before proceeding to Raj Bhavan Kohima and submitting a representation to the President and Prime Minister through the Governor of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, the Naga Club has appealed to President Ram Nath Kovind to immediately repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), joining the chorus against the 'draconian' law.

In an open representation to the President, Naga Club president Kuolachalie Seyie and general secretary KN Mhonthung Lotha said the recent massacre committed by commandos of the Indian Army at Oting Village of Mon district on December 4, killing 14 innocent persons and injuring many other, has sparked civil unrest among the Nagas.

Alleging that AFSPA had earned notoriety for providing a culture of immunity to forces operating in conflict areas, they said it was a symbol of abuse, oppression and discrimination.
