In a statement released earlier today, the Naga Hoho, apex body of the Nagas, stated that a Pan Naga Hoho is the need of the hour to address the issues of Naga-inhabited lands across the region.
In its statement, the body said that the Naga people have been struggling ta free ourselves from the forceful occupation of India for more than 70 years and lamented that "many tall Naga leaders have fallen prey lo the interest of India rather than the interests of the Naga people." It further accused some leaders of Naga society of of misleading the people.
Pointing to the "shared sovereignty" espoused by the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the Naga people on August 3, the Hoho said that the "contentious" issue of the Naga Hoho needs to be "seriously perused".
"The Naga Hoho is of the opinion hat Pan Naga Hoho shauld be well defined organs for
development of Naga areas and to work for Naga Integration in future. but not merely a
cultural body, which will directly benefit the Naga people in general Irrespective of
regions or areas and a precursor to the aspiration of the Nagas for Integration", the statement added.
The Naga Hoho, in its statement, further added that the "agreement must ensure that the Naga people are brought together under a befitting political agreement.
It may be mentioned here that the demand for a pan Naga Hoho has been reiterated time and again by the NSCN, which maintains that a pan-Naga Hoho would look after the welfare of the Naga areas not included in the integrated Naga areas.
