Nagaland state being under zone five of earthquake prone areas, the state needs to be prepared and the only way to prevent and reduce the loss of life and property loss of life is to conduct mock drills and impart basic awareness to the people.
To prepare and make the people aware of emergency preparedness the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority and Home Department conducted Nagaland Emergency Preparedness exercise, a mega Mock drill across the 11 districts of the state in various schools, offices, marketing complexes and hospitals.
This year NEPEx exercise was conducted simulating the 1897 Shillong earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 on the Richter Scale, an earthquake of such magnitude today would cause multiple damages to and casualties if not prepared.
The main objective of the NEPEx exercise conducted today was to test the capability of the Government and other stakeholders in disaster preparedness from Earthquake, fire and building collapse.
