Guwahati, January 20, 2019:

Deputy National Security Advisor R N Ravi has stated that a proposed accord with Naga armed rebel groups is expected to be completed soon. He relayed the information speaking at a national conference on 'Self Reliance in Defense Manufacturing.'

He further added that eight armed groups, including the NSCN (IM) are part of the discussion with the central government. He also stated that the efforts to sign an Accord are expected to “fructify” soon. It is to be mentioned that Ravi, who is the government’s representative for Naga peace talks, held a talk with NSCN (K) on January 10.

The Modi government had also signed a Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015. It essentially highlighted acceptance of the “uniqueness of Naga history and culture” by the central government and the acceptance of the primacy of the Indian constitution.

But on December 21, 2018, NSCN (IM) though it’s MIP had reminded that the framework signed and declared on August 3, 2015 was fundamentally based on the unique history of the Naga people and co-existence through shared sovereignty between the two entities.
