Nagaland: Chakhesang organisation launches second phase of indefinite agitation over unmet demands

The Chakhesang community organisation CCYO commenced the second phase of its indefinite agitation on Monday, October 12, after the Nagaland government allegedly failed to fulfil its three-point demands submitted to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio through a formal ultimatum.

As part of the second phase, the organisation conducted peaceful picketing at the Pfutsero Range Office, Phek Range Office and Phek Forest Office, according to a statement issued by CCYO president Dode Nakro and general secretary Shevoto Vezuh.

The organisation said the agitation followed the government's failure to address its demands within the stipulated period. It has launched a non-cooperation movement to press for a response from the authorities.

The first phase of the agitation began at midnight on October 5, when the CCYO announced the lifting of the ban on hunting as part of its non-cooperation movement.

Claiming that its demands remained unfulfilled, the organisation proceeded with the second phase on October 12 through picketing at the three forest offices.

The CCYO said the picketing was conducted peacefully and in a disciplined manner, asserting that it remained committed to pursuing its demands through democratic means.

The organisation urged the state government to acknowledge its three-point demands, initiate meaningful dialogue with its representatives and take concrete steps to resolve the issues without further delay.

It also appealed to its members and the public to maintain peace, unity and discipline throughout the agitation.

The CCYO reiterated that it would continue its movement until its demands received due consideration and an appropriate response from the government.

However, the organisation's statement did not specify the three demands, and further details were not immediately available.
