A peaceful one-day sit-in protest was held in front of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima today, reaffirming public resolve to demand a re-evaluation of the state's decades-old reservation policy, which has remained unchanged for the past 48 years.
The protest, marked by disciplined participation and widespread support, was jointly organized by key tribal apex bodies and youth organizations. The Angami Public Organization, Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Rengma Hoho, and Sumi Hoho extended their wholehearted backing, delivering strong solidarity messages during the demonstration.
A special note of appreciation was given to the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) for meticulously organizing logistics and ensuring a smooth conduct of the protest. The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth and student groups across the five tribes, further energizing the movement.
Organizers acknowledged the cooperation extended by the district administration and law enforcement agencies for maintaining order and managing traffic, which contributed to the peaceful execution of the protest.
Participants turned out in large numbers, standing in solidarity with the demand for reviewing and rectifying a policy that many believe no longer reflects contemporary realities. Protest leaders hailed the overwhelming turnout as a historic moment in the ongoing struggle for policy reform, expressing hope that future generations would remember the collective stand taken today as a pivotal step toward justice and inclusivity.
