101-Year-Old Freedom Fighter Praised by Netizens for Hunger-Strike against 'CAA'

Bengaluru, January 10, 2020:

A 101-year-old freedom fighter, who sat on a hunger strike in Bengaluru to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) along with other protesters, has broken his fast by drinking coconut water.

Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy, the 101-year-old, had sat on the hunger strike to join the Anti-CAA protesters demanding repealing of the CAA. As soon as he broke his fast after a week of hunger strike, netizens hailed him for his spirit at this age.

Twitteratis shared images and videos of the grandfather and called him an inspiration. A user, Waseem Ahmed wrote, “LET THIS VIDEO BE AN INSPIRATION! While humming RAGHUPATHI RAGHAV, Hindu & Muslims broke their fast through the hands of 101-year-old freedom fighter Doreswamy in Bangalore today. #BangaloreProtest #IndiaAgainstCAA #RejectCAA.”

Several others shared his images and praised him for his step against the controversial CAA.

Doreswamy took everyone by surprise when he joined the country-wide agitation against the CAA in Bengaluru. He sat with the protesters in Bengaluru’s Freedom Park to express his resentment.

It may be mentioned here that CAA has triggered massive protests across the country. While the initial phases saw violent protests with at least 25 people killed in the country, the recent agitations turned peaceful and cultural. Majority of the people have come out opposing the CAA. Among them were seen grandfathers and grandmothers who had seen their country change drastically. Their demand is to repeal the ‘unconstitutional’ CAA.
