At least sixteen people were killed after a compound wall collapsed due to heavy rains at Malad East, in Mumbai on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at Kurar village located in Pimparipada- Malad East. So far 16 dead bodies have been recovered and 5 are in reported to be in 'critical condition'.
The wall collapsed on hutments leading to these deaths. 16 people have been admitted in trauma centre at Jogeshwari and Shatabdi hospital, Kandivali.
It may be mentioned that a woman and a child have been discovered within the debris and a efforts are on to locate them.
The NDRF team overlooking the rescue operations is carrying a dog squad too to trace people who may be trapped inside the debris.
Meanwhile, Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted, "Pained to know about the loss of lives in Malad Wall Collapse incidence. My thoughts are with families who lost loved ones & prayers for speedy recovery of injured. ₹5 lakh will be given to the kin of deceased".
Meanwhile, schools will be closed down in the state due to incessant downpour in various parts of the state.
