NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has revealed that over 8,400 people from Myanmar crossed into India after the Military coup in February. Around 5796 people have been sent back to the country while 2690 people are still staying in the country.
Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State in Ministry of Defence, while responding to a question on infiltration attempts across India’s international border, said, "Post the 1 February military coup…8,486 Myanmar nationals/refugees crossed over into India, of which 5,796 were pushed back, and 2,690 are still in India."
Myanmar shares an over 1,600 km long unfenced and porous land border with India as well as a maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal. Four North-Eastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram share the international boundary with Myanmar. The country saw rising levels of displacement after the Military coup which dismissed the Aung San Suu Kyi government and took power.

A total of 441 attempts of infiltration were made in the Indo-Bangladesh border while 33 attempts of infiltration were made in the Indo-Pak border.
740 people got apprehended for illegally trying to enter India from the Bangladesh side and 20 infiltrators got apprehended from Pakistan.
It also said that a total of 12 persons were killed while making infiltration attempts from the India-Pakistan Border and India-Bangladesh Border. The Ministry has also revealed that 11 infiltrators were also apprehended from the India –Nepal Border till June 30 this year.
No case of infiltration has been reported from the Indo-China border.
