The marriage of two old-age home sweethearts in Thrissur district of Kerala is warming up the hearts of the people in India amid the ongoing tensions over the new citizenship act.
67-year-old Kochaniyan and 65-year-old Lakshmi Ammal, residing in the Ramavarmapuram Government Old-Age Home in Thrissur, tied the knot on Saturday. A special wedding ceremony was organised by the residents of the old age home for the two old friends.

It may be mentioned here that the marriage between the two is the first of its kind in the state. The marriage was encouraged by the old age residents when they came to know about Kochaniyan and Ammal’s old connections.
Kochaniyan used to work as an assistant for Ammal’s husband. When her husband passed away, he tried his best to stay in connection with her and extend his help whenever needed. However, he lost touch over due course of time. Luck brought the two and years later they were reunited at the old age home when Kochaniyan’s family abandoned him after his wife’s death.

The traditional ceremony of marriage was followed by a reception. Well-wishers were present to wish the couple a happy married life.
It may be mentioned here that in 2018, the Social justice department of Kerala had directed to encourage marriage between the residents of old age homes, as a measure to help them cope with their loneliness.
