Around 100 employees have either been laid off or are on the verge of being fired from Ambani-owned news channels such as News18 and CNBC Awaaz.
Network18 news channels ranging from News18 India to many regional-level news channels and business channel CNBC Awaaz have laid off near about one hundred employees. As per sources, the number can be even higher as the layoffs are taking place in different channels on different days.
Many known and familiar faces are also being removed from the popular channel News18, including some senior journalists who were drawing hefty sums as salary, reportedly in the crores.
Sources have informed Inside Northeast that many people are also being forced to resign. At the time of filing this report, Editor Alok Joshi, is also reported to have tendered his resignation. Another big name that has allegedly been let go is Managing Editor Samarjit Bhandral.
It is said that these employees have received a severance package worth their 3 months' salary.
According to some sections of the media, Ambani has initiated these firings in order to turn his media empire into a money-making machine. Thus, many of the employees who were drawing hefty salaries have been laid off and it has been reported that these organizations will hire new faces in the future.
