NEW DELHI: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi today took to his Twitter to comment on the death of journalist Parag Bhuyan from Kakopathar town of Assam. Bhuyan was knocked down by a vehicle on November 11.
Although the vehicle's driver and a helper have been arrested, the media fraternity of Assam is demanding a probe into the "mysterious" death of the senior scribe.
Gandhi said that Parag Bhuyan, a journalist exposing the corrupt practices of the BJP leaders, has died under mysterious circumstances. He further added, “My condolences to his bereaved family. In BJP-ruled states like Assam and Madhya Pradesh, journalists are being strangled, while ones doing 'tamasha' are getting security.”
Bhuyan was a senior correspondent of Pratidin group and local reporter of Axomiya Khabar and VP of Tinsukia Press Club. He was also the younger brother of Ex-Minister Jagadish Bhuyan.
Reportedly, Parag Bhuyan was knocked down near his house on the NH-15 while taking a walk on the highway.
The vehicle immediately fled from the spot towards Dirak side of Kakopathar Police Station — near the Assam-Arunachal inter-state border.
According to reports, the vehicle that caused the accident belongs to a person hailing from Samaguri in Namsai.
The vehicle has been seized and both the driver and the helper have been arrested in connection with the case, Investigations are on.
