Guwahati, December 21, 2019:

Amid the intensifying protests against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the country, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deleted one of its most controversial tweets from its official Twitter handle on Thursday.

In its manifesto, the BJP promised that the party would ensure the implementation of NRC in the entire country and remove every single infiltrator from the country, except Buddhists, Hindus and Sikhs.

Same was mentioned in a tweet that drew a great deal of condemnation for Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The tweet by the BJP's official handle could be viewed, but late on Thursday, as nationwide protests against the CAA picked steam, the official handle deleted it.

Taking a dig at the BJP’s action of deleting the post on twitter, the Twitterati has trolled the Narendra Modi led BJP government and the architect of the contentious Act, Amit Shah.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi tweeted, "Home Minister Amit Shah has stated in his press conference in West Bengal that CAB and NRC go hand-in-hand, Chronologically first CAB for refugees and then NRC for infiltrators. BJP leaders have expressed that those excluded from final NRC will lose their voting rights."

Trinamool leader Derek o'Brien tweeted: "The BJP IT Cell can delete the tweet. But they can't delete what the Home Minister told Parliament, "We will roll out the NRC in all states".
