Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari has demanded a National Register of Citizens (NRC) like the one that is being exercised in Assam, in national capital New Delhi.
Terming the situation in Delhi as ‘dangerous’, Tiwari said that it was necessary to identify illegal immigrants in the national capital, New Delhi.
The actor-turned-politician said that the situation had become so dangerous that it was necessary to have NRC. He added that the illegal immigrants settled in Delhi were the most dangerous.
The BJP MP further said that a NRC would be implemented when time comes. Manoj Tiwari’s statements have come right when Assam published its final draft of the NRC. Over 19 lakh people were in the ‘Rejected’ list of the NRC. The number includes many genuine citizens with valid documents.
According to officials, the excluded people will not be declared as ‘foreigners’ immediately. They have been given a window of 120 days to appeal in the Foreigners’ Tribunals and subsequently approach the courts.
