Ramchandra Guha, a prominent historian, who has been highly critical of the Government's amendment of to Citizenship Act, has been detained during a Bengaluru protest against the same.

Social media star Dhruv Rathee shared a video of Guha being detained, along with the caption, "Historian Ram Guha detained by police for protesting peacefully... It's all caught on camera. A completely peaceful, unprovoked protest by a man of such an age and this is how police treats him"
Guha, after being detained that the police is obeying the orders of the Central Government in Delhi and are dispersing the protesters. "This is a completely discriminatory Act...look at what is happening now, they are removing everyone."
While giving an interview to national media channel, NDTV, Guha was whisked away by the authorities and his cries went unheeded. The video of Guha being detained, originally posted by NDTV, has now gone viral on social media, with many people condemning the people for their callousness towards the 61-year-old elderly historian.
Guha's plight has caught the attention of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, who tweeted out, "This government is scared of students. This government is scared of one of India’s most accomplished historians for speaking to the media on rel="tag" data-query-source="hashtag_click" data-scribe="element:hashtag">#CAB rel="tag" data-query-source="hashtag_click" data-scribe="element:hashtag">#NRC and holding a poster of GandhiJi. I condemn the detention of Ram Guha. We extend our full solidarity to all those detained."
