As informed, the nurse was a part of the medical team which was treating the Kalimpong woman who died last Monday and the railway personnel of Pradhan Nagar, who died a couple of days ago, both after testing positive for the contagion. She has been shifted to the isolation ward of Dr. Chhang’s Nursing Home after her report came in. Dr. Pralay Acharya, CMOH, Darjeeling, has informed that she has been kept in the isolation ward for treatment.
It is pertinent to mention here that 6 more persons in West Bengal’s Kalimpong district, all related to the first case (a 44-year-old lady who passed away on March 30 last) have tested positive for the new coronavirus or COVID-19, Inside Northeast sources have informed. Four relatives of the deceased had tested positive on April 1. Thus, 10 family members of the deceased woman have tested positive for the contagion.
Sunita Devi Singh of Oden Road, the Kalimpong patient, was admitted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Isolation ward on March 26, where she tested positive for the virus. She breathed her last on Monday. Her relatives and contacts are being screened after she passed away, and at the time of filing of this story, as many as 10 of them have tested positive for the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, Railway authorities have informed that all the health workers who came in contact with the dead railway staff have been sent to home quarantine.
It may be recalled that West Bengal reported its first case of coronovirus death in Kolkata on 23 March. The state has also recorded its first Covid-19 positive case with links to the Nizamuddin case in Delhi. One person from Haldia in Purba Medinipur, who had joined the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi, has tested positive for coronavirus. In all, 91 people have so far tested positive for the coronavirus in West Bengal and 3 people have died due to complications.
At the same time, the number of cases in neighbouring Assam on Monday rose to 27. Another positive case of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 has been reported from Assam, this time from Dhubri district. This latest patient is also said to have links with the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi that was held in March last.
Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Alert ~ one more Covid 19 positive case from Dhubri District has been confirmed, taking the total number in Assam to 27. This patient is related to Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi.”
