NEW DELHI: The Centre has appealed to the Supreme Court to stop the farmer's tractor rally scheduled on the occasion of January 26, to counter the Republic Day celebrations in the capital.
The protesting farmers have decided to hold a huge rally in Delhi on the same day as Republic Day celebration in the National Capital amid ongoing protests demanding the scrapping the Farm Laws, 2020. Haryana farmers have a similar plan, with one tractor from each village likely to join in.
According to the farmers, they are expecting a minimum of 20,000 tractors to join in the protest.

In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the centre had appealed to the apex court to stop the rally as it "would not only be against the law and order, public order, public interest but would also be a huge embarrassment for the nation."
"No efforts from the centre were found lacking", the affidavit further stated, adding that they had given their best to build the gap with the agitating farmers regarding the misinformation on Farm Laws.
The Supreme Court, which had been hearing many petitions regarding the farm laws and rally, suggested the centre to put a hold on the farm laws on Monday. It also suggested forming a committee to negotiate the matter.
On Tuesday, an order will be passed regarding the same.
