NEW DELHI: A Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldier was apprehended after he entered Indian territory on Friday, an Indian Army statement said.

"During early hours of January 8, a Chinese soldier was apprehended on the Indian side of the LAC in Ladakh in area South of Pangong Lake," the Army said in the statement.

It said the PLA soldier had he transgressed across the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

"The PLA soldier is being dealt with as per laid down procedures and circumstances under which he had crossed the LAC are being investigated," the Indian Army stated.

Personnel from either side are deployed along the LAC since trouble erupted in the sector last year following mobilisation and forward concentration by Chinese troops.

Several rounds of dialogues have failed to break ice as India and China have been engaged in a nine-month standoff at the LAC in Eastern Ladakh.

Indian troops pre-empted Chinese aggression and occupied heights along the southern bank of Pangong Tso on August 28 and 29 last year.
