Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge named INDIA Bloc chief

A significant development in Indian politics unfolded as Mallikarjun Kharge, the seasoned Congress leader, was appointed as the chairperson of the INDIA bloc, an alliance of opposition parties.

In a related development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was offered the role of convener for the INDIA bloc. 

However, Kumar declined the position, suggesting that someone from the Congress party should assume this responsibility instead. His decision came amidst internal discussions and some contention within the alliance regarding the appointment. It was reported that the JD(U) had initially pushed for Kumar to be the convener, but faced opposition from the TMC.
