The Indian National Congress (INC), the oldest political party in India, has resolved to push back against the contentious amendment of the Citizenship Act and the twin BJP policies of NPR-NRC by conduction nationwide readings of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution that highlights its secular nature.
Lambasting the BJP party for the recession, fall in GDP, unemployment, farmer suicides, layoffs and overall enomomic malaise, the Congress has also accused the ruling dispensation of "embarking on a dangerous course of sharpening polarization and attacking democractic rights and Constitutional guarantees of the people affecting millions of people and marginalized communities."

The CAA, NRC, NRC are a package that is "unconsitutional", which specifically targets the poor, the downtrodden, the SC/STs and the linguistic and religious minorities, the Congress stated. The party, along with its 20 "like-minded" allies, during a meeting on January 13 last have unanimously decided to observe various programs in an appropriate manner and form, specially in the "defense of the Indian Constitution."
In view of this, the party has called upon all party workers to host readings of the Indian Constitution and taking oath to safeguard it in all Constituencies.
The party has requested all its committees to observe 'Ekta Sammelan' and inter-faith prayers on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary on January 30. Moreover, the party has also resolved to observe Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary on January 2e3, and to highlight the struggle of Bose's Indian National Army against imperial power.
