New Delhi, April 29, 2020:

The coronavirus tally in India has risen to 31,332 including 22,629 active cases, 7,695 cured/discharged, 1 migrated and 1,007 deaths, according to latest update by the Health Ministry.

Worryingly, 73 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, which is the steepest rise in COVID-19 deaths in India in one day.

Maharashtra,with 9,318 cases, remains the worst-hit country in the state, with 728 people having tested positive on Tuesday.

However, in a positive development, 80 districts in the country have not witnessed any new COVID-19 case in the last seven days, while 47 districts have not registered any fresh case in the last 14 days.

Meanwhile, with the lockdown entering its last week, all eyes will be on the Government's exit strategy. In a video conference with the chief ministers on Monday, Modi conveyed to chief ministers that the country will have to give importance to the economy as well as continue the fight against the novel coronavirus. Manipur CM N Biren Singh later tweeted that possible relaxation in 'green zones' was discussed with the Prime Minister.

International tally:

Globally, 3,138,919 cases of the coronavirus have been detected thus far. While 956,064 people have recovered, 218,010 people succumbed to death. There are 1,964,845 active cases, and 56,966 (3%) patients are in “serious condition.”

The US, the worst-hit country, has reported 1,035,765 cases and 59,266 deaths.
