New Delhi, April 24, 2020:

India has so far reported 23,077 cases of the coronavirus, according to the Indian Health Ministry. The death toll across India stands at 718. 1,684 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in past 24 hours. 4,748 people, who were infected with Covid-19, have been discharged or cured.

A total of 5,41,789 samples from 5,25,667 individuals have been tested for the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19), April 24 in India. A total of 23,502 samples have been confirmed positive.

Maharashtra remains the state with the highest number of cases at 6,430.

In Kerala, which has been hailed for its ability to quickly flatten the COVID curve, a four-Month-Old baby has died after testing positive for the virus.

At least 14 doctors and nurses have tested positive for coronavirus at a Delhi government hospital in Jahangirpuri, which has emerged as one of the biggest cluster outbreaks in the city. The total number of COVID cases in Delhi stands at 2,376. 50 deaths have been reported so far.

In Northeast India, the latest case was detected on Thursday, April 23. A man from Bilasipara from Dhubri has become the latest person from Assam to test positive for the new coronavirus or COVID-19. With this, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 35. Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who tweeted out about this development, said that the latest patient “has a history of being in touch with another patient, who was part of Athgaon Masjid congregation in Guwahati.”

Meanwhile, the patient from Nagaland's Dimapur, who finds himself in limbo between Nagaland and Assam, with neither state willing to add him to their tally of cases, has been shifted out of the ICU.

In Meghalaya, the Chief Minister says that all patients are in a "stable" state.

International Numbers:

Globally, there are 2,725,920 cases of the coronavirus. 745,905 patients have made recoveries, while 191,061 people have died from complications. 1,788,954 are active cases, while 58,676 are serious/critical patients.

United States remains the country with the highest number of infections (886,709) and deaths (50,243).

Meanwhile, CNN has reported that the technical lead for the WHO's coronavirus response Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove has said --- "The world is "weeks to months" away from knowing what drugs will work to fight coronavirus.
