New Delhi, March 25, 2020:

Novel coronavirus or COVID-19 in India has taken a dangerous leap 562 infected people as on Wednesday. A total of 26 new cases have been reported.

According to Worldometers data, eleven people have died due to coronavirus in India, the latest being that of a man in Tamil Nadu.

Maharashtra has the highest number of cases in the entire country. The tally stands at 112 positive cases. It reported five new coronavirus cases since Tuesday night, taking the number of cases in the state to 112.

The latest cases are from Sangli district, where five members of a family in Islampur tested coronavirus positive, the officials said on Wednesday. Ten more cases were detected in the state on Tuesday, and eight were confirmed late on Monday night.

A 23-year-old girl from Manipur was detected positive on Tuesday morning, making it the first case of the Northeast region.

According to the Test Report of the 23-year-old, she developed the first sign of the illness two days ago and on Tuesday morning she was declared as 2019-nCoV ‘Positive’. Her test was carried out at The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

The 23-year-old came from the UK and arrived at Delhi and Kolkata on March 19. Her brother had also joined her from Atlanta at the Kolkata Airport. They stayed at a hotel in Kolkata and then arrived in Imphal on March 21. Her sister has also been kept in isolation at JNIMS and her brother is under self-quarantine in their house.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his second address to the nation on Tuesday, announced a complete lockdown across the country to contain the outbreak of the virus from midnight onwards. Barring basic facilities like health, groceries, financial and a few essentials, everything have been ordered to remain closed.

Every state in the country, every district, every village, every town and every street-locality is now being locked down, the PM said, and added that 21 days is very important to break the corona cycle.

Novel coronavirus or COVID-19 cases across the world have soared to 422,959 as on Wednesday. According to Worldometers data, the global death has reached 18,907.

With such staggering numbers, nations across the world have gone into a lockdown mode in order to deal with the deteriorating state of coronavirus.

The coronavirus or COVID-19 has so far affected 192 countries and territories around the world with the highest cases in China, Italy, USA, Spain, Germany, Iran, France, South Korea and Switzerland.

It needs mention here that among these ten countries, South Korea, China and USA have reported the fresh confirmed cases of coronavirus — 100, 47 and 33 respectively. A total of 15 new deaths have been reported worldwide on Wednesday.
