The BJP party has received a significant boost ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections as star cricketer Gautam Gambhir has joined the party on Friday as he pads up to begin an innings in politics. Gambhir was inducted into the party in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honored to get the opportunity to join this platform,” Gambhir said during the induction ceremony.
As per reports, Gambhir might contest the Lok Sabha elections from the New Delhi Constituency replacing Meenakshi Lekhi, the sitting MP.
New Delhi will go to the polls on May 12 and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to be the BJP’s biggest challenge for the seat.
Gautam Gambhir played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is for India since making his international debut in 2003 in Dhaka.
