Lucknow, September 30, 2019:

Death toll mounted to 110 across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar due to incessant rainfall in the past few days.

Latest information reveal that 14 people were killed in rain-related incidents according to UP Relief Commissioner’s Office. Several houses and walls have collapsed in the past few days, leaving people residing in the eastern part of UP the worst-hit.

It may be mentioned here that the death toll was reported to be 78 on Sunday.

In Bihar, the National Disaster Response Force had deployed 18 teams to aid people affected by the ‘flood-like situation.

Principal Secretary, Disaster Management Department, Pratyay Amrit described the Bihar situation as ‘totally unexpected’.

Schools in UP’s Lucknow, Amethi, Hardoi and a few others remained closed on Friday and Saturday. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to adopt all measures and extend immediate relief to those affected. Financial aid of Rs 4 lakh was also announced for the family members of those killed.

In Bihar, rail and road routes remained blocked. Trains were also reported to be delayed along several routes in the state. The weather department has cautioned ‘heavy rainfall’ till Tuesday.

Schools will also remain closed till September 1.

It is to be mentioned that heavy rainfall has also been reported in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Several people have been affected in the last four-five days.
