Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has demanded an Assam-like updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Delhi.
He claimed that a large number of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were residing in areas like Okhla and his parliamentary constituency of North East Delhi. He demanded the process of updation of the NRC should be started from the Okhla Assembly constituency. He appealed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for strong measures to deport every illegal Bangladeshi immigrant from the city.
Tiwari said the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had been informed about the illegal immigrants residing in areas like Okhla, Seelampur, Jaffrabad and Mustafabad. For the security of the Delhiites, it is important that these occupants are deported, he said.
Tiwari’s demand came days after an incident where he was pushed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla, Amanatullah Khan, during the inauguration of Signature Bridge, which ignited a scuffle at the scene.
Recently, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das had also demanded the updation of NRC in the state. He had cited a large-scale influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to the state from neighbouring West Bengal
